Succession Season 4: Storyline

Season 4 picks up where season 3 left off. Logan decides to consider Matsson’s offer to buy Waystar-Royco. In Logan’s eyes, selling the company means he wins and his children lose the opportunity.

Kendall, Roman and Shiv, recovering from their defeat, must come up with a new plan. In the new episodes, we will now see an open family war, because the Roys will not simply accept a future in which their cultural and political weight is severely limited.

Moreover, there are likely to be problems for Shiv in her marriage as well. The final scenes of the season 3 finale suggest that Tom has warned Logan about his children’s plan to gang up on him.

In light of the positive renewal news surrounding a 4th season, questions arose early on about how many seasons “Succession” would end up on. Author Georgia Pritchett already revealed to the Sunday Times that a maximum of 5 seasons would be possible.

This information had let the fans hope of course. But now that Succession creator Jesse Armstrong has suddenly announced that the popular series will be concluded with the upcoming 4th season, general dismay is spreading. How is it that season 4 will now put an end to the series?

In an interview with The New Yorker, Armstrong explains that the series ending has always been very present in his thoughts about the process of the series. Already since season 2, he started thinking about how to bring the story to a good and round ending.

Finally, by season 4, he was now faced with the decision of whether “Succession” should become a series in which less good episodes could sometimes sneak in in the future. Together with the other series writers, however, he decided to let the series “end on a high point” and thus choose the “somewhat stronger and more complete way”.
