Foundation Season 2: Storyline

At the end of “Foundation” Season 1, Salvor decided to meet her mother and embarked on a space journey to find Gaal. Gaal had traveled to her home planet of Synnax and crashed there in the cryo capsule.

After her crash, Gaal found a spacecraft in the ocean that had also crashed and rescued a woman from it. The woman turned out to be her daughter Salvor. Through her daughter, Gaal regained hope.

In season 2, there will be a time jump of more than a century. Meanwhile, tensions across the galaxy continue to rise and the Cleons begin to disintegrate. In this, a vengeful queen sees her great opportunity to destroy the empire from within.

At the same time, Hari, Gaal, and Salvor discover a colony of mentalics with psionic abilities who threaten to alter psychohistory itself.

All of this is happening against the backdrop of the Foundation now entering its religious phase as well. At least, this has been proclaimed by the Church of Seldon throughout the Outer Reach, making the Second Crisis, in the form of a great war, seem almost unavoidable.

Foundation Season 2: Cast

In season 1, viewers could enjoy Jared Harris, Laura Birn, Terrence Mann and Lee Pace. In view of a longer planned project, it is quite possible that the cast has signed contracts for a longer period of time in order to be bound to the project. In this respect, viewers can probably expect to see a reunion with the actors of the previous season.

Among the newly announced stars for Season 2 are:

  • Isabella Laughland (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”) as Brother Constant, a cheerfully confident cleric.
  • Kulvinder Ghir (“Black Narcissus”) as Poly Verisof, a senior cleric in the Church of the Galactic Spirit
  • Sandra Yi Sencindiver (“The Wheel of Time”) as Enjoiner Rue, a politically savvy consigliere to the queen
  • Ella-Rae Smith (“The Witcher”) as Queen Sareth
  • Dimitri Leonidas (“The One: Find Your Perfect Match”) as Hober Mallow, a sarcastic merchant
  • Ben Daniels (“Jupiter’s Legacy”) as Bel Riose, the last great general of the Superliminal Fleet
  • Holt McCallany (“Mindhunter”) as guard Jaegger Fount, overseer of Terminus and protector of the citizens
  • Mikael Persbrandt (“Sex Education”) as the warlord of Kalgan
  • Rachel House (“Cowboy Bebop”) as Tellem Bond
  • Nimrat Kaur (“Homeland”) as Yanna Seldon

Foundation Season 2: Production

David S. Goyer will once again serve as showrunner. Production company Skydance Television will again serve as producer for Apple. The daughter of the author of “Foundation Cycle,” Robyn Asimov, is also a producer on the sci-fi series. Other executive producers will be Cameron Welsh, David Ellison, Josh Friedman, Dana Goldberg and Bill Bost.

To capture the stunning scenery in “Foundation,” filming for Season 1 took place on several European islands. The volcanic landscapes were captured on Malta, Fuerteventura and Tenerife. There’s a good chance that filming took place there again this time.

Since Asimov’s book series is impossible to pack into two seasons, chances are good that the series will go into renewal after the following season as well. Showrunner David. S Groyer commented in this regard, “We’re playing with Foundation for the long haul, and I’m grateful to my partners at Apple and Skydance for entrusting me with this epic. Fasten your seatbelts. We’re about to fold a lot of space.”

Groyer probably hopes to produce about 80 hours of footage from the book series of the same name. If the episodes last an hour, as they have so far, and the additional season(s) also have ten episodes, that would mean there would be a total of 8 seasons.
